The historic Dhikala Forest Rest House, originally constructed in the 1890s, holds great significance as the place where the famous Project Tiger was launched, marking a major milestone in wildlife conservation in India. After remaining closed to tourists for several years, Dhikala was officially opened for tourism in 1975 and has since earned a reputation as a premier wildlife destination.
The Dhikala complex provides a wide range of facilities to ensure a comfortable yet authentic jungle stay. Visitors can enjoy guided jeep safaris, nature walks, and birdwatching sessions led by experienced naturalists. Watchtowers overlooking expansive grasslands and the Ramganga riverbed offer excellent opportunities to observe wildlife such as tigers, elephants, deer, and numerous bird species. Best Time to Visit Dhikala Zone
November through June is the ideal time to visit the Dhikala Forest Zone, as it remains open to visitors during these months. The weather is favorable for safaris, and wildlife movement is more frequent.
November to February: Cool and pleasant weather, perfect for jungle safaris, sightseeing, and enjoying the scenic landscape.
March to June: Warmer months increase animal activity near water bodies, offering better chances of wildlife sightings.
Safari timings and availability are subject to forest department rules and seasonal conditions.
